GMT 2024.2: GRAPHICAL TEMPO EDITING IN SIBELIUS

Greetings composers and GMT fans! Today we introduce Graphical MIDI Tools 2024.2 which incorporatesbn a long requested feature: the Graphical Tempo module.

DRAW THE TEMPO CURVE GRAPHICALLY

Create your own ritardandos, accelerandos, or other tempo inflections that will breathe life and expressiveness into your music.

Now you can achieve a more realistic/human-like playback of your score.

EDITING OPTIONS

Several editing options are available to the left of the tempo track:

  • Set up a snap grid for node alignment.
  • Choose the node type (jump or ramp)
  • Activate GMT's innovative feature: the chomp mode

THE NEW CHOMP MODE

In standard (traditional) mode, adding a node makes the curve keep its value until the end of the score.

The chomp mode allows you to draw the curve and constrain those edits to the mouse dragging range.

It's like if you were "biting" a piece of the curve.

This is super useful, for example, to incorporate small ritardandos at the end of a measure or phrase.

ZOOM IN / OUT WITH THE PENDULUM CONTROL

Easily zoom the tempo lane vertically by setting the visible BPM range through GMT's pendulum control.

The pendulum, inspired by old metronome sticks, has two weights. Drag the upper or lower one to set the BPM viewing limits.

ENLARGE THE TEMPO LANE WITH THE SIZE LEVER CONTROL

You can resize the tempo lane for working in more detail with the size lever.

The size lever has three positions for small, medium or full window size.

OVERRIDE THE NOTATED (WRITTEN) INDICATIONS

If there is a written tempo indication in the score GMT displays it in a text box.

You can override its behaviour by drawing over it.

To revert to the original effect, click on the text box. GMT will restore its original behaviour.
